philosophy

the progressive approach

a day at mind sprouts

Mind Sprouts follows John Dewey’s PROGRESSIVE APPROACH. Dewey championed LEARNING BY DOING, also known as experiential learning. He observed that children learn better when they are actively engaged, because they are immersed in the present and not a distant future, such as academic quizzes or exams.

As advocates of this approach, we incorporate different hands-on, play-based, and sensory-based activities in our lessons and topics. We also believe that children thrive in an environment that not only promotes cognitive skills, but also their social-emotional, physical (fine and gross motor), and language skills.

The role of our teachers is to become your child’s partners in learning. By allowing each child to express their interests, teachers are able to create a more meaningful curriculum that ignites each child’s passion and love for learning.

our programs

Little Seedlings (1.5 yrs old - PLaygroup)

The beginning of wonderful preschool memories starts in our Little Seedlings program! As your toddler starts to walk and talk, his natural curiosity about himself and the world around him begins to grow. The Little Seedlings class aims to provide parents and guardians with guidance and support in creating positive learning experiences that encourage and promote each child’s eagerness to explore. Mind Sprouts believes that sensory- and play-based learning is the cornerstone of a child's development. The activities prepared by our teachers foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and social interactions. By engaging in both structured and unstructured play, our students learn to express themselves, collaborate with their peers, and develop their imaginations.

Curious Sprouts (2 yrs old - pre nursery)

At the age of two, our young learners begin to process and understand separation, develop trust in their teachers and find comfort in their classroom environment. With the help of our Mind Sprouts teachers, our students begin to form social awareness as individuals who can care for themselves, and as members of the classroom community who care for each other. Our Curious Sprouts program aims to support your child's growing mind while providing a reliable routine that will allow them to feel more confident as they explore and engage in positive learning experiences.

Growing Adventurers (3 yrs old - nursery)

At 3 years old, our little sprouts become more confident in their school setting. The Growing Adventurers program provides opportunities for our students to face different challenges that will help them develop patience, promote more focused attention spans, and understand the concept of working in different group settings. Aside from social - emotional milestones, this program also focuses on the introduction and application of literacy and numeracy concepts through fun and engaging developmentally appropriate activities.

Budding Navigators (4 yrs old - pre kinder)

Organic Star Shape Fill

As our students move up to the Pre-Kinder level, they have already incorporated all their social - emotional aspects from the previous years. They have developed a better sense and awareness of their own needs and the needs of others. With the Budding Navigators program, our oldest group of students is now able to dedicate their time to more in-depth learning (literacy and numeracy) in preparation for big school. At the age of 4, our young learners begin to come up with more questions about the world around them - with the guidance of our teachers, they begin to explore and investigate the answers to these questions. This program also builds a foundation of practical life skills, allowing them to gain confidence and independence to become responsible lifelong learners.

kindergarten placement

Although Mind Sprouts Learning Hub has yet to offer the Kindergarten program, we are committed to creating a learning environment where your children will develop strong foundational skills that will guide them as they move up to big school. Our goal is for them to not only be ready to meet the academic demands of kindergarten, but also be ready to handle social-emotional challenges, both in and out of the classroom.

Throughout your little one’s journey at Mind Sprouts, our team of teachers make sure to know your child well. From the Little Seedlings to the Budding Navigators program, your child’s development is shared among teachers to ensure that he is well-understood as a learner, allowing us to give you the proper guidance and support in finding the right kindergarten for him.

FAQS

where is mind sprouts learning hub located?

You can find us at G/F Admiralty Bldg. Madrigal Business Park, Alabang, Muntinlupa City - you can also type “Mind Sprouts Learning Hub” on Waze or Google Maps to locate us easily.

What approach or method do you apply in teaching?

Mind Sprouts Learning Hub is a progressive preschool; this means that our curriculum revolves around our student’s interests and curiosities, using them to create positive and holistic learning experiences. With a small teacher-to-student ratio, each student develops the ability to work diligently at their own pace while our teachers give them the opportunity to dive deeper into different topics.

do you have an age cut off for each level?

Yes, our age cut-off date is on August 31 of the current year. We follow this to give our students an easier time in transitioning to big school where the Department of Education requires an LRN for those entering the kinder level.

Group Level

Age by Aug. 31

Little Seedlings

1.5 years old by Aug. 31

Curious Sprouts

2 years old by Aug. 31

Growing Adventurers

3 years old by Aug. 31

Budding Navigators

4 years old by Aug. 31

what are the teachers’ qualifications?

Each Mind Sprouts lead teacher holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education or a related field of study. They also hold licenses to teach from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) of the Philippines. To continuously keep our teachers and staff up to date with the latest educational trends and technologies, we participate in seminars and workshops that involve developing skills related to the progressive teaching style and method.

do you have a kindergarten program?

We are hoping to open a Kindergarten program in the future. For now, we offer Playgroup (Little Seedlings), Pre-Nursery (Curious Sprouts), Nursery (Growing Adventurers), and Pre-Kinder (Budding Navigators) programs for children ages 1.5 to 4 years old. We do guide and support our parents in finding the right kindergarten that would best fit their child.

HOW WILL MY CHILD BE PREPARED FOR KINDERGARTEN? HOW DO YOU HELP FAMILIES WITH THE PROCESS of transitioning to kinder / big school?

In addition to the ever-evolving Budding Navigators curriculum that guides daily classes, our teachers incorporate literacy, writing, math, science, and Filipino activities into the class schedule to ensure our students are more than prepared for kindergarten. For our students transitioning from our Pre-Kinder program to Kinder, we help our Mind Sprouts families by guiding them in finding the right school that best fits their child. We understand that this process can be tedious and challenging for some, and we intend to make the load lighter by preparing activities such as mock interviews and quizzes upon request.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE THE SEPARATION PROCESS?

We know each child will separate from their parent or guardian at a different pace, and that typically it takes younger children longer to feel comfortable in a new classroom environment. Therefore, we have a gentle phase-in schedule of two weeks for parents or guardians to accompany their child as they transition to their class routine. We highly encourage parents to allow their child to work on their own as this promotes self-help skills and independence.

Typically, during the 2-week adjustment period, parents will drop off their child in the classroom on the first day, and then eventually move into the reception area when their child is more comfortable, and finally leave the building when their child is ready for his/her independence at school. Only one parent or guardian is allowed to accompany each child during this period.

HOW INVOLVED ARE PARENTS and families?

As involved as they choose to be! Parents and family members are always welcome to visit the classroom as a mystery reader, to cook or bake, share a special skill (musical instrument or whatnot), or anything else! We also invite families to join our events and activities such as field trips, Family Fitness Day, mini bazaars, and school programs. At Mind Sprouts, we believe that developing a healthy relationship between school and home is one of the foundations of creating the best preschool experience for our students.

WHAT IS THE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME LIKE?

Teachers are always available via our class Viber groups. Teachers will send short updates every two weeks, which we call school diaries. Many children are hesitant to talk about school at home, so having these relevant written details helps facilitate a nice conversation at home! Other updates may also be in the form of an activity description, videos, or photos sent via Viber. In addition, our teachers post recipes, song lyrics, curricular updates and important reminders via Viber so that parents have a real glimpse into their child’s life at school.

Throughout the school year, there will be two narrative reports given and discussed by the class teacher. These narrative reports are the My Days In School Report, which is given at the end of the first semester, and the Preschool Portfolio, which is given at the end of the second semester. Our method and learning approach does not subject children to exams and percentile grades as we believe these do not fully describe your child's progress. Instead, we refer to a Developmental Checklist and relay our observations on your child's performance when it comes to the different developmentally appropriate activities done in class.

is being potty-trained a requirement?

Because children develop differently, and our youngest students are just 1.5 years old, we do not expect that children will enter school potty-trained. This is an individual journey for every child and family and we will work with parents/guardians when the time feels right to begin potty-training. Teachers will figure out how to best replicate what families do at home and work with each child to do the same routine at school.
